PROJECT SUMMARY

Arch Engineers Ltd. provided full structural and foundation design services for a new steel workshop adjacent to an existing facility. The building was purpose-built to house three 16-ton gantry cranes used for material fabrication and handling. At the core of the project was a carefully engineered Steel Building Foundation, designed to safely support heavy operational loads and dynamic crane movement.

The workshop spans 96,000 mm in length, 15,200 mm in width, and 9,100 mm in height. Due to the complexity of the equipment, the design required deep pile foundations to manage concentrated loads from the cranes. Each crane needed a dedicated overhead track with smooth operation and long-term stability. Arch’s team optimized the foundation and framing systems to meet these demands while reducing differential settlement risks.

Seismic design was also a critical component. Arch reinforced key connections and column bases to meet updated seismic codes. These enhancements ensured the structure could withstand lateral forces without compromising crane performance. Additionally, the Steel Building Foundation was integrated with seismic resilience in mind, balancing flexibility and strength.

To streamline construction, Arch applied value engineering strategies. These included minimizing material use, simplifying connections, and coordinating closely with crane suppliers to align installation with structural milestones. Through detailed modeling and collaboration, the final solution was both cost-effective and code-compliant.
