PROJECT

Pivoting Counterweighted Aluminium Dock & Ramp

SCOPE

Arch Engineers designed and built a versatile aluminum hinged bridge anchored on beach bedrock and a passenger dock ramp meeting Q50 marine storm standards. The bridge supports pedestrian traffic and heavy snow loads, while the dock features a tidal-zone foundation and a counterweighted gangway for adaptability.

LOCATION

Finisterre Island

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Finisterre project showcased our engineering expertise with a pivoting counterweighted aluminum hinged bridge that provided residents access to a boat area. The bridge was anchored in beach bedrock on a precast concrete foundation. It could withstand heavy snow loads when raised and support pedestrian traffic when lowered. This adaptability reflects our commitment to functional, site-specific solutions.

The project also included a dock ramp designed to meet Q50 marine storm standards. We built the landing 25 feet above low tide on a strong tidal zone foundation. A pivoting counterweighted gangway ensured flexibility and safety in harsh conditions. Close coordination with municipal authorities and a structured approval process enabled us to deliver a resilient marine access system under complex constraints.
