Arch Engineers plays a key role in the Non-Market Housing project, working closely with the Municipality’s Lands and Facilities Department. This $40 million initiative requires extensive project management and coordination. Over 12 months, Arch embedded several professionals within municipal teams. The work continues as the project expands.
Initially, the Non-Market Housing scope focused on developing systems to enhance the Municipality’s project management. This effort raised the level of professionalism needed to work with developers, owners, utilities, citizens, and Indigenous Groups. While the project began with four sites, it now covers six. The team also manages demolition, including heritage buildings that need special care.
The team faced long drawing production times from utility providers, which could take up to 18 months. However, Arch’s Project Management Office built strong relationships and reduced turnaround times by seven months. In some cases, they received drawing revisions on the same day.
For four development sites, Arch prepared tender documents and led project and construction management. They supervised third-party utilities and road construction. By coordinating with consultants, Metro Vancouver, and the City of Burnaby Traffic and Transportation departments, Arch kept schedules on track. Their commitment ensures the successful delivery of this complex project.
