PROJECT

HWY5 Bridge Design & Logistics

SCOPE

Engineered a specialized transport and offloading procedure for 28m and 42m steel girders, including bracing design, dolly configuration, and analysis of dynamic forces such as wind, turning, and braking.

LOCATION

Hope, BC

PROJECT SUMMARY

Arch developed a procedure to rig and transport and offload the 28m and 42m girders from fabrication to the installation site. The procedure involved a truck and jeep with a remote-controlled steerable dolly capable or carrying the 43 tonne pieces. Different factors required separate analyses and solutions including acceleration, deceleration, wind load, and turning loadings.

The girders were braced together to double the stiffness, using timber braces to restrict compression and chains for tension
