Arch Engineers Ltd. was entrusted with the design and implementation of the ECS2 Steep Slope Equipment Travel Assist Plan, a critical component of the Creekside Bridge construction project. This project involved developing a safe operating procedure for the transit of heavy tracked and rubber-tired equipment along a challenging right-of-way slope, ensuring secure access to the construction site.
The range of equipment that required safe transit included 200-ton cranes, large diameter drill rigs for drilled piles, fully loaded concrete mixer and pump trucks, as well as expander trailers and dollies for transporting large girders. Additionally, the plan accounted for rubber-tired equipment such as telehandlers and personnel transportation vehicles. Given the extreme weight and size of the equipment, Arch Engineers designed a comprehensive support system utilizing one or two dozers working in tandem to assist both uphill and downhill transit.
The scope of work included designing for varying degrees of traction, considering conditions such as snow, ice, mud, rain, clay, and dry material. Arch Engineers meticulously planned for different slope angles, allowing for adaptable dozer configurations to ensure safe transit under extreme conditions. This design not only accounted for the immediate safety of personnel and equipment but also maintained the integrity of the slope and surrounding environment.
The ECS2 Steep Slope Equipment Travel Assist Plan exemplifies Arch Engineers Ltd.’s expertise in developing innovative, practical solutions for complex and hazardous construction scenarios, reinforcing our commitment to safety and operational excellence.
