Our bridge and civic infrastructure team collaborated with the Acciona pursuit team to deliver a comprehensive package of solutions for the installation of several hundred meters of temporary traffic deck across multiple locations along the Broadway subway route in downtown Vancouver. This high-stakes project demanded innovative and efficient engineering to ensure minimal disruption to the bustling urban environment. Our team provided Acciona with the confidence and certainty needed to manage the complex logistics and structural requirements of this significant undertaking.
We developed and implemented a system of walers, beams, and struts designed for dynamic removal and replacement. This system allowed for easy access to the excavation sites below the traffic deck without significantly impacting the flow of vehicles above. Our approach ensured that construction activities could proceed smoothly while maintaining traffic movement, thereby reducing delays and inconvenience for the public.
A key aspect of our strategy was the use of simple access bridges commonly employed in the resource industry, such as multi-girder bridges used in forestry. This choice facilitated easy fabrication and supply, ensuring that the materials were readily available and cost-effective. Moreover, the steel components retained their value for potential reuse or resale upon project completion, highlighting our focus on sustainability and resource efficiency. This project exemplified our ability to deliver high-quality, innovative engineering solutions that meet the stringent demands of urban infrastructure projects while supporting economic and environmental goals.
